Gadflies, especially horse flies are well known to horse, cattle and donkey owners. These insects leave painful bite wounds, carry lyme disease and leave two- and four-legged creatures alike in fear. Many of those plagued by horse flies are already using horse fly traps. These tried-and-tested traps reliably attract the biting insects, providing quick, simple and chemical-free relief from horse flies.

Many horse fly traps can only be placed into the ground using an auger and metal post. Some animal lovers shy away from purchasing a horse fly trap because the ground conditions are not suitable for installing one, or nature conservation rules prevent them from doing so. For this reason we now offer the horse fly trap with a special hanger. The trap no longer needs to be anchored into the ground. Using sturdy metal cable, the VOSS.farming "Tabanus-Trap EASY" is easily hung on a tree or from an interior ceiling. A mounting bracket is also available. You can use this to hang the "Tabanus Trap easy" from a shed or house wall and keep your animals protected from the flies.

The "Tabanus Trap easy" from VOSS.farming is fitted with a simple funnel system. The catchment container is easily removed and replaced without clips. Since many animal owners are increasingly asking for horse fly traps with a white canopy, we have fitted the "HanTrap" with just that. The horse fly trap attracts 95 % of all horse flies in an area of 10,000 m². This gives your horses, cattle, donkeys and yourself some peace and protection from these biting insects.

How does the "Tabanus Trap easy" horse fly trap from VOSS.farming work?

The "easy" uses a simple principle to attract the horse flies into the trap: The horse fly trap is built using a black inflatable rubber ball. This moves slowly in the wind and is heated by the sun. The warmth and movement makes the flies believe that it is a warm-blooded living animal. To get at the desired blood of its victim, the insect flies towards the rubber ball, wanting to bite it. But the fly will bounce off the bite-proof ball leaving it dazed as it attempts to fly away. Above the rubber ball is a tight white catchment cover which acts as a funnel and makes the fly move upwards. However, it will not find its next bite victim here, but rather a container of water, in which the insect then drowns.

The main improvements of the VOSS.farming "Tabanus-Trap easy":

1. Funnel

 

The improved funnel has a specifically designed UV-resistant Solar Membrane to allow maximum sunlight. The improved light permeability ensures a stronger heating of the ball, thus the capturing rate is improved once again and the ball requires less sunshine to heat up. The seams for fastening the funnel, as well as the material, have been strengthened again and a particularly durable Velcro fastener has been introduced so that even in stormy weather excellent tear resistance is guaranteed. An anti-freeze ingredient in the fabric of the funnel ensures resistance to low temperatures and eliminates the possibility of the material breaking during dismantling and assembly.

2. Bait-ball

The extra-large, black, rubber bait-ball has an even thicker wall than the previous model. This enables a better heat storage and increases the durability. A practical hand-held air pump is included.

3. Capture container and intake

The transparent capture container with Easy-Clean function is much easier to use and remove than other models. In addition, it has a fill line to avoid over- or underfilling. The container wall has has been reinforced threefold and is therefore particularly robust. In our tests it did not break even under a load of full body weight (100 kg).

4. Low price

How can we offer this trap at such a good price?

• lean distribution structures do not require high advertising costs

Please note the following:

• Horseflies usually gather near bodies of water (lakes, rivers, ponds, puddles, marshes, etc.).
• Before you set up the trap, you should determine the flight paths used by the horseflies to and from the bodies of water.
• Once you have located the flight paths, place the trap/s as close to them as possible.
• The capture containers must be emptied depending on the capture rate.
• Make sure the trap is set up in time for the emergence of female horseflies, which occurs from April onwards. This is the only way to get rid of annoying horseflies.
• You should also place a couple of drops of detergent into the water-filled capture container. The surface tension of the water is then decreased and can no longer support the insect. This causes the horseflies to drown.
