Technical data:

What does the technical data mean?

Output voltage (in volts):
  • Fence voltage when no electric fence is connected
  • This value is not relevant in practice
Voltage at 500-ohm load(in volts):
  • Theoretical voltage when a fence is connected and an animal or vegetation is touching it.
  • This value is relevant in practice!
Charge energy (in joules):
  • The charge energy is what the energiser takes from the mains socket or battery and consumes itself.
  • This value is not relevant in practice
Discharge energy (in joules):
  • the discharge energy, or pulse energy, indicates the total energy of an electric pulse on the fence and shows the performance of the energiser
  • this corresponds to the shock strength of the fence
  • the higher it is, the less of an issue vegetation is and the more secure the fence
  • this value is particularly useful for comparing the strength of different energisers
Power consumption (in watts):
  • indicates the power that a mains energiser takes from the mains socket
Power consumption (in mA):
  • indicates the power that a battery energiser takes from the battery socket
Resistance (in ohm/metre):
  • the resistance indicates the conductivity of the conducting material
  • the lower the resistance in a material, the better its conductivity
  • fences that are 500 m–1000 m in length should not have a value above 3 ohm/m
  • fences that are 1000 m–3000 m in length should have a value around 0.2–0.6 ohm/m
  • fences longer than 3000 m need a value lower than 0.2 ohm/m
Tensile strength (in kg):
  • specifies the resistance to tearing under load of the conducting material
  • a wire with a tensile strength of 75 kg, for example, means that the wire break if a weight of 75 kg is hung from it
theoretical fence length (in km):
  • specifies the length of fence possible when completely free from disturbances (e.g. vegetation)
  • This value is not relevant in practice
fence length with light to dense vegetation (in km):
  • specifies the length of fence possible when surrounded by different levels of vegetation
  • This value is relevant in practice!
